- BratJul 20, · Venus: Shocking Blue & Cabanel in both my beat-up picture-sleeve single and the Dutch quartet’s eponymous LP from and I” taking “California Here I Come” in .
- ShalrajasAmerican listeners tend to remember Shocking Blue as the one-hit wonder behind the chart-topper "Venus," a melting pot of rock rhythms, country guitar licks, organ riffs, and Mariska Veres' heavily accented vocals. Sounding something like a cross between "96 Tears" and "Sugar, Sugar," "Venus" was not entirely representative of the group's first album, At Home.
- ShakalkisOct 07, · I recently acquired the self-titled Shocking Blue LP on Colossus. I think this configuration was only available in Canada and the U.S. The LP plays true stereo for all of the songs except "Venus" and "Mighty Joe". "Mighty Joe" is mono, same as my "Venus" sounds like it was futzed with a bit. Not quite mono, but fairly close.
- ZulugoreShocking Blue's record label did them a disservice by not promoting the band enough in this country. The CD is full of solid, catchy tunes that surely would have been well received had the American public been made aware. Of course, "Venus" was the big hit around the world, but songs like "Love Buzz" and "California Here I Come" are also /5(47).

- Mebar“California Here I Come” and the already-mentioned “Long and Lonesome Road” are just as catchy, just as cool, just as memorable as “Venus,” as is a song called “Love Buzz,” which Nirvana eventually covered (not too well, but they get points for having the cool to pay the tribute) on Bleach.
- VudogamiShocking Blue was a Dutch rockband from The Hague that was at their peak in the 60s and 70s and gained major cross-Atlantic success!. The band was founded in and after recruiting vocalist Mariska Veres they soon became huge. With their single "Venus" they became the first Dutch band ever to reach the first spot on the American Billboard Hot
